Some backstory
I discovered Disco Elysium at a weird time in my life. I was nearly a uni-dropout and fresh out of the worst depressive episode I've ever experienced. I found the game at a perfect moment: things were finally looking up and I had the time (and peace of mind) to properly enjoy the story.
I finished my first playthrough in the span of 64 hours from downloading the game - with over 40 hours of playtime. Which is probably why I latched onto it to such degree and why I'm still obsessed over 2 years later.
Later on the game helped me connect with a long-time Friend, and it still proves as a point of connection whenever we start drifting apart again.
Cosplay time!
Backstory finished - let me just say that I have a strong connection to Kim Kitsuragi. And even with all his flaws and shortcomings I aspire to be like him. Which is weird, since usually I project myself onto characters I love, instead of projecting them onto me. Hm.
Which is why! it was such a wonderful surprise when my partner Salem gifted me a handmade crocheted Kim jacket last year! And why it was such an honor to be able to wear it for a proper cosplay at a convention last weekend!
The look itself was pretty easy to get together, since my usual outfits are already 90% of the way there. I just needed the jacket and glasses, lol.
The hunt for the glasses was the toughest part (lasted a few months, on and off), but the perfect pair appeared one day at a flea market and I couldn't be happier.
For a first-time casual cosplayer, the convention was a really positive experience. It was my third year of visiting this specific convention, but my first year actually dressing up. A few people asked to take a photo with me (and everyone was impressed with Salem's crocheting skills) - and I even got to meet a few Harriers to match my Kim! I'm not usually one for pictures, but it was nice to see people get excited by my cosplay :)
Here's me with a random Harry that spotted us outside!
I'm really satisfied with how the convention went overall - and I'll be looking for opportunities to wear the jacket (or full cosplay) more often for sure :D
Thank you Salem and aforementioned Friend for going to the convention with me, and thank You for reading!
